5 Best places in Colorado for Engagement Sessions

Your photos, your love, your moment.

In a beautiful place like Colorado, it can be daunting to decide on a location for your engagement session. The decision can become overwhelming and can bring you to a stand still. This guide is to help you find what fits you and your partner’s style for your engagement photos.

  1. Shrine Pass

This stunning pass is located in the rocky mountains in Summit county. Located just 2 miles northwest of Vail Pass, Shrine Pass offers a variety of backdrops for your engagement photos. Want mountain peeks in the background? Shrine Pass has them. Want wildflowers and beautiful evergreens. Shrine Pass is your spot. The drive from Denver takes about two hours- give or take depending on traffic of course, but man is it worth it.

As someone who loves nature, and keeping it as nature-y as possible, I find that it’s important to be respectful in places like this. Stick to the trails and roads. Don’t walk all over the wildflowers, and leave no trace!

2. Eldorado Canyon

Eldorado Canyon offers a variety of trails and remarkable places to take photos. During the spring and summer there is a diverse range of colorful wildflowers, and again-amazing backdrops to choose from. You can sit in the grass and snuggle with your honey, or enjoy the views of the flatirons to the west. Eldorado is close to Boulder and only a 30 minute drive from Denver- meaning it offers killer views without the killer drive. Take your engagement photos here and depending on your outfit, it might be a good idea to bring along a pair of walking shoes for in-between photo locations.

3. Union Station

Don’t want to leave the city? I don’t blame you! Don’t worry, there are SO many cool spots to take photos within the Denver area- and one of my favs is almost as central as you can get.

By having your engagement session at Union Station, you can incorporate so many unique looks to your photos. Within Union Station you can get moody-romantic looking photos. Then by walking outside you can get the classic photo with Union in the background. Without even leaving the block you can incorporate the impressive architecture into your session. How much easier can it get?

4. Golden Gate Canyon State PArk

Okay, hear me out- fall in Colorado- UNBEATABLE. Golden Gate Canyon State Park is the PERFECT, and I mean perfect location for summer and fall engagement photos. During the spring and summer the aspens, evergreens, and lush grasses offer so much beautiful greenery to make your photos feel like a true Colorado engagement session. BUT if you wait until september or october- the golden and red hues will light the fire in your photos and bring you the feeling of autumn anytime you look back at your images.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is (depending on your choice of trail), about an hour outside of Denver, giving you that perfect backdrop with a drive that doesn’t feel like it eats up your whole day!

5. CHAUTAUQUA Park

Now this one is a classic. Located in Boulder Colorado, Chautauqua Park is the quintessential location for Colorado engagement sessions. The backdrop is stunning and accessible year round. Want green grass in your photos? Spring and summer are the perfect time. Love a little yellow? Fall is your season. Love the snow and the flatirons? Well don’t worry because this spot is just as beautiful in the winter. The parking lot for this stunning location is just 100 feet away, making this an easy location for just about anyone.

The drive from Denver is only about 30 minutes, AND if you want your engagement session to have mountain and city vibes- Pearl street is only 10 minutes from Chautauqua, meaning you can have the best of both worlds.
